Job Description

The Desktop Engineer/VDI Analyst applies strong experience with VMware View Technology to implement and administrate a large-scale (1000+ desktop sessions) VDI deployment using non-persistent and persistent desktops in a financial services environment.

The position is primarily responsible for providing maintenance, support and enhancement for the Ohio National Financial Services enterprise desktop environment. The responsibilities include defining the Windows desktop image standards, deployment methods, and use of supporting tools and technologies (anti-virus, profile management, user experience monitoring, performance troubleshooting, etc.). The Analyst will project an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct and support the Information Technology (IT) department's mission.

The Desktop Engineer/VDI Analyst receives minimal supervision from the Manager and is required to plan, coordinate, lead projects, and define project tasks. This position will often work closely with members of other teams regarding major project tasks and responsibilities.


  • A bachelors’ degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 5 years of desktop computing experience
  • VMWare Horizon View virtual desktops (persistent and non-persistent)
  • VMWare ThinApp
  • VMWare vSphere 5 or later
  • Extensive scripting experience VBScript, C#, PERL, VB.NET, PowerShell or other programming languages
  • VMWare Certified Professional – Desktop (preferred or within 1 year of hire)
  • LOMA certification (LOMA 281 / 291) - required within 1 year of hire
  • HDI certification - required within 1 year of hire (i.e. DST, CSR, SCTL, etc.)
  • ITIL Foundations v3 certification - required within 1 year of hire
  • Expert knowledge of the following is preferred:
  • Experience troubleshooting and enhancing desktop security and configuration management through Group Policy Objects (GPO)
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and technologies including Ethernet, TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, load balancing and DHCP
  • Solid knowledge of registry and file systems
  • Experience developing and deploying unattended operating system installations for workstations/desktops/laptops with an in-depth understanding of hardware-independent imaging capabilities
